How to choose toxic-free toys

The WECF Toys Guide offers useful information on most of the hazardous substances found in toys and concrete tips on how consumers can play it safe when buying toys for children. The practical brochure provides concise information on the most hazardous substances found in toys, informs about the potential dangers and gives concrete advice on how consumers can play it safe when buying toys for their children.

So far, it has been published in nine languages in order to provide tips on how to choose toxic- free toys.

Consumers in Armenia and Kyrgyzstan are becoming more aware of the products they buy. This has become evident from the results of a study conducted by two non-governmental organizations dedicated to the idea and work for toxic-free toys for children.

WECF Partner and member of the Safe Toys Coalition “Armenian Women for Health and Healthy Environment” (AWHHE) and its Kyrgyz counterpart “Independent Ecological Expertise” (IEE) are currently running a project aiming towards further support of the already existing efforts to eliminate toxic substances in children’s toys from the market in Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Belarus and Ukraine by 2020. 32 of 50 Christmas gift items tested positive with toxic chemicals

MANILA, Philippines -- Popular Christmas gift items such as painted toys, glasses, and mugs tested positive with nasty chemicals known for damaging a child’s brain and future. “This is the outrageous truth that we have discovered after subjecting 50 product samples to chemical analysis,” said Thony Dizon, coordinator of the EcoWaste Coalition’s Project Protect.
